Multiply and divide integers
Integers include negative numbers. A number line helps: adding moves right, subtracting moves left.
How to do it
- Adding a negative is the same as subtracting.
- Subtracting a negative is the same as adding.
- Multiplying or dividing: same signs give positive, different signs give negative.
Worked example
12 × 2 = ?
Multiply the sizes (12 × 2 = 24), then the sign: same signs give a positive, so 24.
Answer: 24
