How to do it

  1. Part: percentage × whole ÷ 100.
  2. Percentage: part ÷ whole × 100.
  3. Whole: part ÷ percentage × 100. Discounts: find the percentage, subtract. GST: add 10%.

Worked example

A $40 jacket is 50% off. What is the sale price, in dollars?
50% of 40 is 20. 40 − 20 = 20.
Answer: 20
