Solve linear inequalities

An inequality is solved like an equation, but the answer is a range, not one number.

How to do it

  1. Undo adding or subtracting, then multiplying.
  2. Keep the sign the same way when dividing by a positive number.
  3. Dividing by a negative flips the sign.

Worked example

2x + 3 < 11
Take 3 off both sides: 2x < 8
Divide both sides by 2: x < 4

Watch out
x < 4 means every number less than 4 works.
