How to do it

  1. Method 1, split it up: break each number into its place-value parts.
  2. Multiply every part of one number by every part of the other.
  3. Add all the pieces.
  4. Method 2, columns: multiply by each digit from the right, carrying when you pass 10.

Two ways to do it

Method 1: Split it up

Break 34 into 30 + 4. Multiply each piece, then add.

34 × 6
30 × 6 = 180
4 × 6 = 24
180 + 24 = 204

Method 2: Columns

Multiply each digit from the right, carrying when you pass 10.

34 × 6
Work right to left, one digit at a time, carrying as you go.
34 × 6 = 204
