Volume of cones and spheres
Volumes of curved solids use π: cylinder πr²h, cone ⅓πr²h, sphere 4⁄3πr³. A pyramid is ⅓ × base area × height.
How to do it
- Write the formula.
- Substitute the radius and height.
- Use π ≈ 3.14 and round as asked.
Worked example
A square pyramid has base side 8 cm and height 3 cm. Find its volume in cm³ (one decimal place).
V = ⅓ × base area × height = ⅓ × 8² × 3 = 64.0.
Answer: 64.0
