Volume of cylinders
Volumes of curved solids use π: cylinder πr²h, cone ⅓πr²h, sphere 4⁄3πr³. A pyramid is ⅓ × base area × height.
How to do it
- Write the formula.
- Substitute the radius and height.
- Use π ≈ 3.14 and round as asked.
Worked example
A closed cylinder has radius 2 cm and height 11 cm. Find its surface area in cm² (π ≈ 3.14, one decimal place).
SA = 2πr² + 2πrh = 2 × 3.14 × 2² + 2 × 3.14 × 2 × 11 = 163.3.
Answer: 163.3
